I had a guide for hikes around Chimborazo. I was coming from sea level, so I was limited to less than 4000m for the first couple of days (and some people experience altitude symptoms at less than that). If I had stayed longer I could have done a couple interesting hikes on Chimborazo itself - I was fine after two days here.

Come to Riobamba if you want to climb/bike on Mt.
Come to Riobamba if you want to climb/bike on Mt. Chimborazo and/or visit the markets on Saturday. The downtown is interesting, worth a few hours, but does not cater to tourists. It is a city for Ecuadorians living their lives. The markets on Saturday are amazing. They are some of the most authentic, local markets we've visited. Very little for tourists, just real stuff for real Ecuadorians. If you are interested in climbing the mountain plan on time to get use to the altitude. Riobamba is a good base camp for a few days to begin this process.

I only wanted a bed for the night to break up a long bus trip, so didn't get to see much of the town at all. I'd like to have explored the architecture, and of course the mountains around the town are very impressive.

I enjoyed my stay in Riobamba.
I enjoyed my stay in Riobamba. Closed train station was a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!! Visiting local cemetery was really something! I am writing this comment on my laptop and photos are on my phone but if you want to know more about Riobamba check my channel (Rootsless) on You Tube. Don't forget to like my channel. Thank you.

Riobamba is a good stepping off place to visit other small towns in the region. Sadly, all the churches were closed when I was there during the week I visited. This was disappointing. The city is very walkable and should you need a taxi or bus they are everywhere.

Riobamba is an attractive city that did not seem touristy.
Riobamba is an attractive city that did not seem touristy. We were very comfortable walking about downtown. The empanadas we had from a local restaurant were excellent and very inexpensive. Transportation was very easy, as taxis are everywhere and very cheap. I wouldn’t spend a week here, but we enjoyed it for a day or two, and it makes a great base for day trips in the High Sierra.
The room was very clean and wasn't small. The hotel and the surrounding neighborhood were quiet. The bus station is about a 10 minute walk away; and while the center seems far on the maps, it didn't really feel like it when walking there.
Comfortable pillows.
The breakfast was great with a respectable quantity of fruit, juice, coffee, eggs another item or two which varied frm morning to morning. They also had coffee and tea available whenever you want; it's nice to be able to get a cup of coffee right when you get up.
Irma the host is exceptional. She is very friendly, kind, considerate and helpful. She made us feel very comfortable from the moment we met her. I intend to come back and stay here in the future. I slept so soundly that I almost missed the delicious breakfast she prepared for us. I highly recommend this place to everyone who is considering a long term stay in Riobamba, especially since her husband offers tours to incredible places that are off the beaten path. In other words, those places that are not on tourist guides.
The most amazing host family owners.
Amazing rooftop and all around beautiful building interior.
Native english speaking owners.
You get a personal key and can come and go as you like.
They asked of I wanted a cup of coffee in the morning, not if they could sell me one.
Placed in the heart of Riobamba with walking distance to the bus terminal.
If you're using the regional and have a stay over or want to spend a few days on the city, definitely check in here.
We loved everything about this place. The property is beautiful. The room was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was well appointed with an excellent shower. The restaurant on the property was outstanding!! Breakfast was large and delicious. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. They even sent out for an item from a pharmacy that we needed urgently! This was our favorite hotel in Ecuador.
I had a wonderful stay at Casa de Mármol in Riobamba, Ecuador. The host, Irma, was extremely helpful and provided great tips and practical assistance. The breakfast was delicious and the accommodations were comfortable. The hostel's location was convenient for exploring the city. I highly recommend Casa de Mármol for a pleasant stay in Riobamba.
Good environment, most of the other travlers were other hikers so easy to find people to hike with or to get hiking tips. They also rent out some hiking gear at the propety. Was fun cooking dinner in the communcal kitchen. 25 minute walk from bus station, 10 minute walk from centro, plenty of shops nearby. Safe location, wifi was ok.
We liked everything about our stay. The unique quaint atmosphere of the hotel, the friendly and gregarious owner, Santiago, and the large and tasty breakfasts served at your table. Santiago even made lattes for us. We requested one the first day and after that he remembered and just brought us one.
We love Mansion Isabela and always stay there when I visit Riobamba. The rooms are so comfortable and the beds huge. It's decorated in a beautifully simple yet classic rustic style which makes you feel really at home. The staff are great and always willing to help with a smile!
We had a lovely room and lashes if hot water which after days at hotels where caliente meant lukewarm was absolutely brilliant. The hotel is far away from anything that would cause too much noise so we had a great night's sleep. The breakfast was OK. The parking worked fine.
Beautiful hotel in the center of Riobamba
Historical building, with amazoing interior, and nice rooms. Free parking 3 minutes from the hotel, correct breakfast and good wifi. Staff is extremely kind and helpful, bit don't speaking english at all.
Free breakfast was offered with a specified menu at the restaurant next door to the hotel. The hotel staff was very helpful with directions and other information, including helping me find the parking lot (which was two blocks away).
The location is great, in the center but still in a more quiet street. A good hotel for a base location but not more. Amazing, strong and hot shower!
The staff provided us breakfast earlier for us to go on a very early tour.
Amazing service (staff, food, rooms). Location is convenient (centric but not too much). The hotel support local initiatives (like coffee production, handycrafts, artisanal soaps, etc.)
